1. Introduction

AppEatByte Ltd ("AppEatByte", "we", "us") uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on our website at appeatbyte.com and within our mobile applications (collectively, the "Platform").

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, the types we use, why we use them, and how you can manage your preferences. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

By continuing to use the Platform after being shown our cookie notice, you consent to our use of non-essential cookies as described in this policy. You can withdraw or adjust your consent at any time — see section 6.

2. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, tablet, or smartphone) when you visit a website or use an app. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently, remember your preferences, and provide information to the site owner.

Cookies can be:

  • Session cookies — temporary cookies that are deleted when you close your browser or app.
  • Persistent cookies — cookies that remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them.
  • First-party cookies — set directly by AppEatByte.
  • Third-party cookies — set by external services we use, such as analytics providers.

Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, and pixels, which we may also use for purposes described in this policy.

3. Why We Use Cookies

We use cookies for four main purposes:

  • Strictly Necessary: To make the Platform work. Without these, core features such as logging in, adding items to your cart, and processing payments cannot function. These do not require your consent.
  • Functional: To remember your preferences (such as your language, location, or previously searched cuisines) so we can provide a more personalised experience.
  • Analytics: To understand how visitors use the Platform, which pages are most popular, and where we can improve. This data is aggregated and used to enhance the overall user experience.
  • Marketing: To show you relevant promotions and offers from AppEatByte, where you have consented to receive them. These cookies may track your browsing activity across different websites.

4. Cookies We Use

The list below describes the specific cookies set by AppEatByte:

Strictly Necessary

  • sessionid — Django session cookie. Keeps you logged in during your visit. Expires when you close your browser.
  • csrftoken — Django CSRF protection token. Prevents cross-site request forgery attacks. Persistent (1 year).

Functional

  • appeatbyte_prefs — Stores your location, cuisine preferences, and display settings. Persistent (90 days).
  • appeatbyte_cart — Saves items in your basket if you are not logged in. Session cookie.

Analytics

  • _ga, _ga_* — Google Analytics cookies used to distinguish users and sessions, and to compile statistical reports on Platform usage. Persistent (up to 2 years). Requires consent.
  • _gid — Google Analytics cookie used to distinguish users. Expires after 24 hours. Requires consent.

Marketing

  • appeatbyte_mkt — Records whether you have opted in to marketing communications and stores campaign attribution data. Persistent (180 days). Requires consent.

We periodically review and update this list as our use of cookies changes. Check back here for the most current information.

5. Third-Party Cookies

Some cookies on the Platform are set by trusted third-party services we use:

  • Google Analytics (Google LLC): We use Google Analytics to measure traffic and usage patterns. Google may use this data in accordance with its own privacy policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • Payment Processors: Our payment providers may set cookies to facilitate secure transactions and fraud prevention. These are strictly necessary for payment functionality.
  • Map Providers: Where we embed maps to show restaurant locations, the map provider (such as Google Maps) may set cookies on your device.

We do not control third-party cookies. Please refer to the respective third party's privacy and cookie policies for more information.

6. Managing Your Cookies

You have several options for managing cookies:

Cookie Preference Centre: When you first visit the Platform, you will be shown a cookie banner where you can accept or decline non-essential cookies. You can revisit and change your choices at any time via the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer.

Browser Settings: Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies through their settings. Please note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will affect the functionality of the Platform. Common browser guides:

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Apple Safari
  • Microsoft Edge

Mobile Apps: On mobile devices, you can limit ad tracking through your device's privacy settings (iOS: Settings > Privacy > Tracking; Android: Settings > Privacy > Ads).

Opt-Out Tools: You can also opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies via the Your Online Choices website.

7. Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. Because there is no agreed industry standard for responding to DNT signals, the Platform does not currently alter its behaviour based on DNT requests. You can use the cookie management options in section 6 to control tracking explicitly.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time as we change the technologies we use or as legal requirements evolve. We will indicate the date of the latest revision at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated via the Platform's cookie notice or by email.
